IELTS which stands for Internation English Language Testing System has four parts Writing, Reading, Listening and Speaking. Most of the students feel reading part tough and ultimately they are no able to achieve higher points. Today's article is exclusive on Tip for reading in IELTS. I am going to share some very useful tips which will help you to improve a lot in the reading section in IELTS exam.

Tip 1: Read Question First

I remember when I was in school our teacher used to tell us that whenever you have a test to 'Find the answers from paragraph' always read the question first and then read the paragraph. Same applies to the reading section of IELTS, here also you have to read the questions first and then start reading the paragraph.

By reading the question first you will remember the question and then after when you will start reading paragraphs, your brain will subconsciously find the answer to the question which you read. When you read the paragraph first and question afterwards you forgot the content that you need in the paragraph, hence you have to read it again which will waste your time and effort.

Hence always read questions first then only start reading the paragraph.

Tip 2: Don't confuse with synonyms

Generally, lots of synonymous are used in the reading section and due to poor vocab of students they are unable to find answers because they are not aware of synonyms and similar vocabs. Example: synonym of 'large' is 'enormous' and students don't know about it now what happens is word 'large' is used in question and word 'enormous' is used in the paragraph because student don't know that enormous is synonyms of large they are unable to figure out the right answer.

Almost 100% times it happens that there are two different words are used to confuse students one in paragraph and second synonyms in question. So brush up your vocab to score higher!

Tip 3: learn new Vocabulary

Because students are poor in vocab they lose the chance to answer the question in reading comprehension. Well, the good news is you can learn new vocabs by following our guidelines. Always read something new it can be English newspaper, book, magazine, brochure, etc. When you read something you will find many new words and hence you vocab will increase.

The second thing is to read something related to history, technology, geography and scientific research because 90% reading section is related to these topics only. If you will read something related to history, technology, geography and scientific research then your chances of learning new vocab will increase which will helps you a lot while attending the reading section in IELTS.

Tip 4: Develop Fast Reading skills

Your speed of reading the text decides ow many questions you will attend and hence as fast as you read more question you will be able to attend. It is generally seen that students are unable to attend questions and time is running out because they are poor at fast reading.

There are so many techniques which will help you a lot to read fast like scanning and skimming techniques, pointer technique, etc. We will talk about fast reading techniques in some another article. Hence slow reading skills can affect your scores!

Tip 5: Don't try to understand full Text

Your job is only to find the correct answer not the meaning of the test that you are reading. Students generally make mistake in trying to understand the whole text which consumes a lot of time and ultimately they fail to attend many questions. You don't need to understand the whole task but only try to locate the answers.

Tip 6: Find Keywords

Every sentence contains a keyword and generally, that keyword is the answer to your question! A keyword is a word which is the base of the whole sentence. To find the keywords in the questions just ask W-H question respective to that sentence and you will get the keyword.

It is the most effective way to find answers and it is the easiest trick of all. When you have good vocabulary and trick to find out the keyword you will find the reading section very easy and you will answer the questions very efficiently.

Tip 7: Practice, Practice and Practice more!

No matter how much tricks you use and tips to hear but until and unless you do practically, nothing will change! It is seen that student stop doing practice when they came to know some tricks or tips about the IELTS or any other exam portions and hence history repeats again!

Hence to be concluded, Practice more to Score more...
